FYI! Low Carbs = Weightloss?

11 Aug

Golden Fries... a Deadly Sin.

A lot of us struggle with our weight and body fat, but the biggest culprit of them all are Carbohydrates. Some of my favorite foods contain an extremely high amount and the portion or… “recommended serving” is 1/4 cups or 1/2 a cup” which when you put on a plate is either not enough (for me) or you don’t even notice if you have gone overboard; until you are bloated and cursing life for making you eat so much. So my friend I ask you, for those of us looking for ‘lighter’ alternatives – what would you do?

During my research for low carb idea’s I came across Continue reading

Health! Living with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) part 1

18 Jul

As with every published article on Jaded Press, we try to include links within the post – for you to have the most resources possible to get even more information.

First and foremost I would like to say writing this article is really difficult for me because I was in denial that I had PCOS and this is the first time I am going public with it… so bare with me. After giving birth to my precious little girl back in 2007, I developed a lot of problems physically and even emotionally; that I NEVER had before – so of course I assumed they were all somehow related to my delivery and postnatal changes. Why might assume that? well let’s rewind a little bit; for the sake of some background – my pregnancy went pretty smooth with very little complications, I was happy about that because I know many others who had a ton of problems… the only problem I had was that baby seemed like it was only getting bigger and bigger… too big… at my last sonogram they told me she was going to be almost 11lbs! so in the last two weeks of my pregnancy I gained over 20lbs – so my MD decided to induce me 4 days before my due date. On my last visit to my OB-gyn, all the tests went exactly as they did for the previous 9 months, the final results were good and I was excited to get this baby OUT! Because it seems as though my face, logs, ankles, body swelled up into a balloon and I just couldn’t hold all that weight anymore. So I went in to deliver at 5:00am on Oct 24th. Once I got to the hospital they checked my vitals, urine and the baby’s heart rate… I wasn’t too worried since everything looked good the evening before… but unfortunately that’s when sh*t hit the fan. All of a sudden there were large amounts of protein in my urine and my blood pressure was sky high – I developed a sudden onset of Serve Preeclampsia “over night”. Continue reading

Got Milk?

27 Jun

By now, you have probably heard that the majority of the milk supply in the United States contains traces of a genetically modified bovine hormone called recombinant bovine growth hormone, or “rBGH,” which is injected into lactating cows in order to increase their milk production. In the late 1980’s Monsanto Corporation took a naturally produced animal hormone “Somatotropin” and genetically replicated it using recombinant DNA biotechnology, marketing it as “POSILAC,” a breakthrough technology proven to boost young cattle growth and milk production by 10-15%. What Monsanto did not advertise was their lack of long term research associated with the consumption of rBGH in humans, as well as the effects on injected cattle. Monsanto’s privately financed studies revealed deformities in calf offspring, as well as severe bacterial infections and swelling of the udders which caused blood and pus to be secreted directly into the milk. In order to combat the infections cattle is treated with antibiotics, however because of increased resistance by the bacteria the antibiotics given become limited and obsolete. Although no profound testing was completed, POSILAC was approved in 1994 by the FDA as safe for human consumption and without adverse side effects in treated cows. In 1989, confidential documents of Monsanto were leaked and revealed frightening facts regarding rBGH: Continue reading
