In the News! Netflix Further Snubs Their Customers!

13 Jul

Today on July 13th, 2011, Netflix’s Vice President of Corporate Communications Steve Swasey, issued a formal statement to MSNBC following a monumental social media outrage with the company. After yesterday’s announcement of subscription price increases, and over hundreds of thousands unhappy customers all voicing their displeasure via social networks and customer service lines, many reporters were unable to reach Netflix for comment. MSNBC’s Technolog acquired an exclusive statement on behalf of Netflix which addresses and minimizes customer concerns:

He said the timing of the price change was “appropriate” and that “$6 more is a remarkable value, a latte or two every month. For most folks it’s absorbable,” adding Netflix was “sympathetic to those in terrible financial straits.” But, he said, the reaction was “expected.” “We anticipated some folks were not going be happy with the change. It didn’t surprise us.” Continue reading

In the News! Casey Anthony: Vedict is in – Not Guilty

6 Jul

Casey Anthony was found not guilty in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee. I; like most of you – am speechless. So I’ll just ask a poll question.

On July 5, 2011, Casey Anthony was found not guilty of murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter, but guilty of four misdemeanor counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer.

Caylee Marie Anthony. August 9, 2005-June 16, 2008

Investigation: wikipedia.org
When Detective Yuri Melich, with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, began investigating the disappearance of Caylee Anthony, he found discrepancies in Casey’s signed statement. When questioned, Casey said Caylee had been kidnapped by her nanny, Zanny. Although Casey had talked about Zanny, she had never been seen by Casey’s family or friends, and in fact there was no nanny. Casey also told police that she worked at Universal Studios, a lie she had been telling her parents for years. Investigators brought Casey to Universal Studios on July 16, 2008, the day after Caylee was reported missing, and asked her to show them her office. Casey led police around for a while before admitting that she had been fired years before.

Got Milk?

27 Jun

By now, you have probably heard that the majority of the milk supply in the United States contains traces of a genetically modified bovine hormone called recombinant bovine growth hormone, or “rBGH,” which is injected into lactating cows in order to increase their milk production. In the late 1980’s Monsanto Corporation took a naturally produced animal hormone “Somatotropin” and genetically replicated it using recombinant DNA biotechnology, marketing it as “POSILAC,” a breakthrough technology proven to boost young cattle growth and milk production by 10-15%. What Monsanto did not advertise was their lack of long term research associated with the consumption of rBGH in humans, as well as the effects on injected cattle. Monsanto’s privately financed studies revealed deformities in calf offspring, as well as severe bacterial infections and swelling of the udders which caused blood and pus to be secreted directly into the milk. In order to combat the infections cattle is treated with antibiotics, however because of increased resistance by the bacteria the antibiotics given become limited and obsolete. Although no profound testing was completed, POSILAC was approved in 1994 by the FDA as safe for human consumption and without adverse side effects in treated cows. In 1989, confidential documents of Monsanto were leaked and revealed frightening facts regarding rBGH: Continue reading

In the News! Same Sex Marriage Bill Passes In New York

25 Jun

It’s official Governor Cuomo Signs Same Sex Marriage Bill Into Law – making New York the 6th state to legalize same-sex marriage. He signed the bill into law at 11:15pm on Friday and the decision passed 33-29 even some Republicans came out [no pun intended] and said “f*ck it, I don’t care what you think. I’m trying to do the right thing” ~ Republican Roy McDonald. I think everyone should have the right to be happy [or miserable HA] for the rest of their lives; marry who you want, no one should be able to tell you NO. So I’m a happy New York is making history in this way – if you pay taxes and work in New York [or the USA in general] you should have the right to make you own descsions when it comes to Love and Romance. Let’s think about how this benefits New York(ers) in general: more marriages not only mean equal rights for people but it also means more money for the City: wedding planners, booking venues, flowers, dresses and on the flip side divorce and custody attorneys will have a bigger client base to make money off of etc – this will benefit our economy here as a whole! so MAYBE just MAYBE the next vote will be “How to decrease rent/taxes/prices in NYC! [only can dream]

Why America is Fat, Broke, and Sick

24 Jun

According to a 2008 report from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average American male over the age of 20 weighs approximately 195lbs standing at 5 feet 8 inches tall. The average American woman over 20 years old weighs 165lbs and stands around 5 feet 3 inches in height. This data was collected by National Center for Health Statistics over the course of three years, from 2003-2006, but the numbers are getting larger if comparing trends from previous years.

In 2005, a similar survey was published by Health and Consumer Protection Directorate General for the “Special Eurobarometer” of the European Commission, consisting of data collected from 25 European Union Member States. The survey revealed some interesting statistics regarding the citizens of Europe; men and women ages 15 to 55+ answered questions regarding their health. The results show that the average male weighs approximately 173lbs and stands 5 feet 8 inches in height. The women of the European Union on average weigh 145lbs and are roughly 5 feet 4 inches tall.

In the News! NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage

15 Jun

Governor Cuomo says about New York – [that the state has] “been on the right side of history,” bringing up instances such as civil rights and woman’s rights.  “But on the issue of marriage equality, our state has fallen behind,” he said.

With that being said, do you believe that New York State should legalize same-sex marriage? are you for it? against it? don’t care?

My opinion? I think every one has the right to have ‘rights’ in this country; if they are contributing to society by working, paying taxes, buying products [helping NYC revenue]. If you are considered a law abiding citizen of NY or the USA for that matter, no body has the right to deny you any type of rights – in my opinion; including the right to marry someone YOU want to marry. If it’s okay for heterosexuals to do it, then what on earth makes ‘certain’ people have any say in the fact that no one else has those same rights. We all contribute, so we all should have the same rights, its only fair and right.
