I recently came across an Android App called: “Fooducate – Eat a bit better™”, curious about the name – I decided to check out the description and user reviews (as I usually do) – BOY WAS I THRILLED TO HAVE STUMBLED UPON THIS ONE. I was really excited to test it out when I went grocery shopping and I was FLOORED with the results.
For the last few months I have been looking for “healthier” options for foods that I like – because like every other woman on this planet, I want to lose weight. (I.E: … Pepsi? > Diet Pepsi | Chips? > Crackers | aside from Fruits and Vegetables that is). After taking this App to the store with me and scanning before buying… I was in utter shock. Most of the food I thought was ‘healthy’ or ‘healthier’ was rated even worse then the original product I wanted.
Not only does this App tell you the grade level the product gets it also explains in detail why it was given the grade that it was. For Example one of the items I scanned was something my husband was about to buy: “Freschetta Pizza – Supreme” it was given a grade D, the reasons listed were:
– Contains trans-fats!
– Salty! Over 40% of the daily max
– Very high in saturated fat
– Contains nitrites/nitrates
– Made with refined flour; not whole grain
It also allows you to read in full detail the explanations of those bullet points if you want AND it gives you the option to check for “Alternatives” so that’s what I did and we ended up buying “Amy’s Pizza Pesto” which scored a grade B-.
Over all I grade this App a A+!
it really can help us be more informed before we buy stuff that will not only tug on our waistlines but also tug on our health.

wonderful!! glad you’ve found it, I am sure this is going to help many many people 🙂 Now if only they ALSO had an app that showed how much hormones and pesticides are in the “healthy” foods… *sigh*
actually… I believe it does! it breaks down every single ingredient that is bad for you (and those that are good) give me an example of a food and I will try to scan it and then let you know.
a package of popcorn should deff give u the gmo portion of it. if it does that is awesome!
I shall check tonight!
